News February 2025

Dear readers of my blog,
dear visitors of the exhibition “Oscar Wilde. A Writer Trapped by His Own Words”,
dear readers of the “The Picture of Dorian Gray. The Uncensored Wording of the Lippincott’s Text”,
while you have chosen different approaches to reading the life and works of Oscar Wilde, there is one thing that these approaches have in common. They all relate to the publication of Wilde’s only novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray” on 20 June 1890 in Lippincott’s Monthly Magazine on both sides of the Atlantic.
The text of this edition was first published in German translation almost 25 years ago to coincide with the centenary of Wilde’s death. A second revised edition of the critical edition, first issued by Elsinor Verlag in 2012, is in process. As long as this second revised edition has not appeared, the English edition, as announced above, remains in print. Since Elsinor Verlag is a small independent press, it may occur that the title is temporarily out of print, but if booksellers or potential buyers contact either the publisher or me, even now a reprint can quickly be organized. The only thing that seems to have changed dramatically is the price of paper. This is directly linked to the ongoing warfare, and paper has become a rare resource. If you do not want to waste that resource, you can also resort to buying the e-book, which is also available through Elsinor, on the internet and through retail sellers.
All best wishes,
Jörg W. Rademacher
